A couple of shots from Fort Pike. Fort Pike is located about 23 miles east of New Orleans. It was constructed in the early 1820’s to add fortification to the coast after the war of 1812. Fort Pike, along with several other forts along the Gulf, protected strategic ports and rivers such as New Orleans and the Mississippi.
