I was lucky enough to accompany my husband on a business trip he had to San Francisco this month. And although the weather was hotter than it was in Mississippi (minus the humidity), we had a wonderful time. A special thanks to Holly for showing me the coast. The two of us had a great day devoted to photography. And, to Holly and Jim for dinner, a tour of their old neighbourhood and a ride down Lombard Street.

This past spring my husband accepted a new position with his company, and in July we moved from Houston Texas to Gautier Mississippi. Gautier is a small town, two hours east of New Orleans, on the Gulf of Mexico. It has been a big change moving from the fourth largest city in the US, to a very small town. The weather is very similar to what we have been used to in Houston; however, we get more rain here and things are much greener. In fact, Gautier gets about an inch more rain annually than Vancouver! I am looking forward to our new adventures here and exploring this part of the coast. Here are a few images from our first few weeks in Gautier.

Rainy Day Images

There have been many times when the weather just doesn’t entice me to go outside and take photos! On those days it is nice to have an indoor project. These photographs were all part of image “assignments” and “challenges”.

The first two images were shot for a hi-key/low-key assignment. Those are images that are either mostly all light, or mostly all dark.

The two images of the bubbly fruit were shot for a “home shoot” assignment for one of the clubs I belonged to in Houston. It was a lot of fun to experiment with lighting. I put the fruit in a glass of 7-up. The shoot was much harder than I had anticipated as the bubbles did not cooperate and the fruit wanted to either sink or float in the wrong position!

The last shot, “Fresh Out of the Oven”, was for an assignment titled “Out of Context”. I wanted to come up with a perspective that you wouldn’t typically see.

Ecuador – April 2014

From April 5th to the 25th 2014, my husband and I embarked on a wonderful adventure. We travelled to Ecuador to celebrate both of our 50th birthdays and our 25th wedding anniversary (all of which occurred in a three week gap near the time of our trip).

We landed in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where we spent two days. Then we flew 600 miles off the coast, on the equator, to the Galapagos Islands. Here we spent twelve incredible days sailing around the islands on the MV Samba with her fantastic crew and photography guides Bob and Diane Harvey (Nature Photography Adventures). The final leg of our trip was to La Selva Lodge, an eco lodge east of the Andes in the Amazon jungle.

The places we saw and the people we met were amazing. We had an unbelievable time and will always remember this “once in a lifetime” trip.
